Cape Verde maintains certification for flights to the USA.

Two international airports in Cape Verde have retained their certification for flights bound for the United States, following an evaluation by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) conducted in May, as announced by the Civil Aviation Agency (AAC) today.

“The evaluation aimed to revalidate the Last Point of Departure (LPD), a crucial requirement for air operations to the United States,” stated the AAC in a note.

This status ensures that the airports meet the international security standards required by the United States, enabling the continuation of direct flights and enhancing passenger and airline confidence.

The assessment was carried out at the Amílcar Cabral International Airport, located on Sal, Cape Verde’s main tourist island, and the Nelson Mandela International Airport in the country’s capital.

According to the agency, this outcome “reinforces Cape Verde’s international reputation and solidifies the country’s image as a safe tourist destination.”

The AAC also highlighted that there are currently 13 LDPs in Africa, of which two are in Cape Verde, underscoring the country’s strategic importance in the regional aviation sector.
