“We currently have over 38 low-cost flights per week connecting the entire world,” stated José Luís Sá Nogueira during the debate on the State of the Nation.
The official announced that by the end of the year, Cape Verde will have “more than 80 connections per week through low cost from Portugal, from France, supporting the diaspora.”
The minister said that with this measure, the government is working to improve the air transport sector in Cape Verde.
Easyjet announced in early July direct flights linking Lisbon and Porto to Cape Verde’s capital, Praia, and two other islands, starting in October.
Meanwhile, Cabo Verde Airlines (the commercial name of TACV) announced in April that it would resume its operations to the French market from July 23, serving both the diaspora and the tourist market.
The company will operate flights from Praia to Paris on Sundays with returns on Thursdays. On Mondays, the connection from Paris to the island of São Vicente and then to the island of Sal is guaranteed, following a one-hour stopover in Mindelo, with the reverse route being completed on Wednesdays.
Additionally, the Swiss company Edelweiss Airlines will commence new connections to the airports of Praia and the island of São Vicente from the end of October, according to Cabo Verde Airports two weeks ago.
The company already operates regular flights to the islands of Sal and Boa Vista.
The increase in regular air connections with Europe has boosted tourism in Cape Verde, particularly on the islands of Sal and Boa Vista, leading the country to a record of 1.2 million guests in 2024.
Tourism and related activities are the driving force of Cape Verde’s economic growth, with revenues estimated at over 500 million euros last year, representing more than 70% of exports.
