Cape Verdean President begins visits to Portugal and Spain on Thursday.

José Maria Neves will be in Portugal on Thursday for a working agenda in Loulé, Algarve, where Cape Verde is the featured country at the MED Festival.

During his stay, the Head of State will visit the town hall, the ruins of Cerro da Vila — Roman Museum, and the Hope and Peace Association, which “has been developing social initiatives to support the elderly and disabled since 2006,” according to the presidency.

The MED Festival, featuring Cape Verdean and Portuguese artists, celebrates cultural diversity and the meeting of peoples, including music, visual arts, dance, theater, street entertainment, cinema, and workshops.

On Saturday, the President of Cape Verde will meet with the Cape Verdean community in Madrid, “reaffirming his commitment to remain close to the diaspora and mobilize them for the country’s challenges,” the statement read.

At the invitation of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, José Maria Neves will represent Cape Verde from Monday to Thursday, July 3rd, at the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) in Seville.

The event will bring together the international community to discuss global challenges such as geopolitical and economic instability, supply chain disruptions, and the reduction of official development assistance.

The President of the archipelago will speak at the first plenary session, advocating for a new cycle of development financing that ensures intergenerational justice and shared prosperity based on coherence, mutual responsibility, and global solidarity, according to the Presidency’s statement.

He will also participate in side events, such as the special meeting of the “Seville action platform” and a roundtable on “mobilization and alignment of domestic public resources.”

The conference aims for agreements to mobilize resources needed to achieve the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as to maintain the 1.5 °C limit set by the Paris Agreement.
