The 10th edition of the Aleste festival, in Funchal, takes place between May 23 and 26, with a range of activities and the usual arraial marked by the return of Capitão Fausto to the event.
On May 25, Praia da Barreirinha, in Funchal, will host a series of concerts starting at 3:30 p.m., as usual, the organization said in a statement.
Kiko Dinucci, presented as “one of the most influential names in São Paulo music of the last decade”, kicks things off, followed by Bia Ferreira, a Brazilian artist and activist, and Mistune, a Japanese neo-folk fusion band based in Berlin.
This is followed by concerts by Portuguese bands Glockenwise, “who return to Madeira to present ‘Gótico Português'” and Capitão Fausto, who return with “Subida Infinita”, the band’s fifth album.
To close Saturday’s line-up, known as the main day of the festival, Pelada, a Canadian duo that fuses electronic beats with protest anthems, and DJ Lizz, “princess of neoperreo”, take to the stage.
The ticket for Aleste costs 30 euros and gives you access to all the events taking place on Saturday afternoon at Praia da Barreirinha, as well as the free events on the other days.
The first day of the festival, the 23rd, kicks off at Funchal’s Jaca Hostel with the participation of La Flama, followed by a convivial dinner at Museu Café, developed by Biqueira, a regional gastronomic research project, and ending with DJ Pedro da Linha.
On Friday, the proposal is a trip to Ponta de São Lourenço, which includes a boat trip and a surprise concert overlooking the sea. This is followed by a first festival in Largo do Socorro, in Funchal, with various performances, concerts and a fair selling handicrafts, clothes and other products.
To end the event, and after Saturday’s highlight, Sunday is the day to head to the north of the island for “an afternoon of decompression” at the Jaca Hostel in Porto da Cruz, with brunch and music from King Kami and DJ Pizza.
