Based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the regional maritime authority reports that waves are expected to reach around five meters on the northern coast and up to 3.5 meters in the south.
Additionally, it is noted that the wind will blow “fresh to very fresh, at times strong (51 to 61 kilometers per hour) until mid-afternoon and from the middle of the night,” while visibility will range from “good to moderate.”
Due to these weather conditions, the Funchal harbor master advises the coastal community to reinforce the mooring and surveillance of anchored and moored vessels, avoid walks in areas exposed to surf, and refrain from recreational fishing.
