Car and body of man who fell into the Tagus River on the Marginal removed

The rescue operation was conducted by the Dafundo Volunteer Firefighters from the Oeiras municipality, alongside the support of forensic diving elements from the Maritime Police. They successfully retrieved the body from inside the vehicle.

“The death will be declared on-site by the Health Delegate, and the body will be transported to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Lisbon by the firefighters”, stated a note from the AMN.

The victim was discovered lifeless by the divers at approximately 11:40 AM inside the vehicle. As explained by Sérgio Duarte, the deputy commander of the Paço de Arcos Volunteer Firefighters, during an interview with Lusa, the individual was found to be “severely trapped.”

Initially, Sérgio Duarte informed Lusa that the car was located “near the rocks, about five to ten meters from the shore.”

The authorities found a backpack with documents identifying the individual as a 31-year-old man, who was allegedly driving the vehicle.

A light vehicle plunged into the River Tagus today on Avenida Marginal in Caxias, Oeiras. The alert for this accident, which occurred at the so-called Monaco curve, was given at 7:30 AM, according to information provided to Lusa by a source from the Greater Lisbon Sub-Regional Command.
