At a press conference attended by Portuguese cardinals who stayed at the Pontifical Portuguese College in Rome during the Conclave, Cardinal António Marto shared a message he conveyed to Pope Leo XIV: “I bring wishes of happiness, I bring the wishes of all the pilgrims from Fátima” and expressed hopes for a future visit from the Pope at a suitable moment.
Pope Leo XIV responded in Portuguese, saying “Thank you very much” on two occasions, according to António Marto, who praised the Marian devotion of the former Cardinal Robert Prevost.
António Marto noted that Leo XIV, who recited the Hail Mary during his balcony greeting, is “Marian” and “has a great devotion to Our Lady.”
