
The Port of Lisbon has reported a significant growth, largely due to a 77.3% increase in solid bulk cargo, rising from 199,055 tons in March 2024 to 352,932 tons in March 2025. General cargo rose by 8.9% in March, reaching 428,360 tons. Containerized cargo experienced a 6.8% increase to 394,601 tons, while breakbulk cargo surged by 41.4% to 33,759 tons.
Overall, the Port of Lisbon handled 2,588,266 tons of cargo in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 4.3% increase compared to 2,482,407 tons in the same period last year. Containerized cargo particularly stood out, with a 7.9% rise to 1,171,675 tons.
In terms of containers handled (TEU), there was a positive upward trend, with a 7.7% growth in March and a cumulative 6.4% increase for the quarter, compared to the same periods previously.
Carlos Correia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of APL – Administração do Porto de Lisboa, expressed satisfaction with the results, indicating they reflect the growing confidence of operators in the Port of Lisbon. He emphasized that this performance, particularly in the current challenging global trade context, reinforces the strategic role of the infrastructure in the national and international logistics system.
