“At this moment, the issue is not about the executive or what a candidacy might entail. It is Carlos Moedas who is running, running for another four years, and that’s what we’re doing. There are still many discussions to be had; we are still at a point where the first decision to make is the candidate, and candidate Carlos Moedas humbly asks the people of Lisbon for another four years to govern the city,” stated the president of the Lisbon city council.

The PSD mayor spoke to journalists on the sidelines of a project presentation for night-time parking for residents in the city, following the announcement of his decision to run again for the presidency of the Lisbon City Hall in the municipal elections on October 12.

When questioned by the Lusa news agency about when his candidacy will be presented, Carlos Moedas indicated that the presentation is scheduled for July 16 at 6:30 PM.

In addition to Carlos Moedas’ re-candidacy from the Social Democratic Party, candidacies have already been announced for Alexandra Leitão (PS), João Ferreira (CDU), Carolina Serrão (BE), Ossanda Líber (Nova Direita), José Pinto Coelho (Ergue-te), and Bruno Mascarenhas (Chega) for the presidency of Lisbon City Hall.

In the current term (2021-2025), social-democrat Carlos Moedas governs Lisbon without an absolute majority, having been elected by the New Times coalition – PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança.
