Carlos Moedas, the social-democrat and candidate from the PSD for the Lisbon City Council, has reached an agreement for a coalition with the Liberal Initiative and CDS-PP for the municipal elections scheduled for October 12, as reported by SIC Notícias and confirmed by Notícias ao Minuto.
An official from the Liberals indicated that the agreement will be formalized next week. Further details regarding the coalition, particularly on council appointments, are expected in the coming days.
Since 2021, the Lisbon City Council has been led by Carlos Moedas, who governs without an absolute majority, elected through the “Novos Tempos” coalition – PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança. His decision to seek a second term in the October 12 elections was announced by the social-democrat on Thursday, where he acknowledged discussions had been underway for a potential coalition agreement between PSD, CDS-PP, and IL – now confirmed.
“Carlos Moedas is the candidate, he is running for another four years, and that is what we are doing. There are still many discussions to be had, we are still at a point where the first decision to make is the candidate, and candidate Carlos Moedas humbly asks the people of Lisbon for another four years to govern the city,” stated the president of the Lisbon municipality that day.
