The Fado in Historic Cities festival’s second edition is set to take place in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, on May 31 and June 1, and in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, from June 6 to 8.
Carminho and Cuca Roseta will perform in both cities, alongside Maria Emília, a São Paulo native of Portuguese descent.
The Ouro Preto program also features performances by Mariana Aydar, Sérgio Pererê, Jéssica Gaspar, Natanael Carvalho, and the Coletivo Negras Autoras.
The city will also host a historical lecture on “The legacies of Portuguese colonialism: exploitation and contemporary challenges.”
In Petrópolis, in addition to Carminho, Cuca Roseta, and Maria Emília, the lineup includes Alceu Valença, Cordão do Boitatá, Eduardo Neves, Natasha Llerena, and João Felippe. The city will also hold a Decolonial and Poetry Soirée, honoring Portuguese poet and writer Maria Teresa Horta, who passed away this year.
The festival program includes workshops for children, a “Tastes and Crafts” fair, and live cooking sessions with a chef.
