José Luís Carneiro addressed journalists at the Assembleia da República following Tuesday night’s debate between Henrique Gouveia e Melo and António José Seguro, asserting that it was “clear” that the candidate supported by the PS is the most suited for the role of President of the Republic and demonstrates the right profile for the position.
“I consider it inappropriate for another presidential candidate to claim to be the PS candidate,” he remarked, criticizing Gouveia e Melo.
The PS leader reiterated that his party “has only one candidate,” António José Seguro, endorsed by the PS following the decision of the socialist bodies.
During the debate, Gouveia e Melo stated that he represents “another political camp also, that of the PS,” subsequently describing his opponent as a representative of “a faction of the PS.”
“He can’t even fully represent the PS. Hence, his concern with these attacks on me,” responded the admiral.
