Carneiro anticipates a long election night with everything “very tied”

“I urge those at home who have not yet voted to do so until 7:00 p.m. It is a civic duty, a fundamental right, and it is very important to participate. Electoral power in a democracy is where democracy is most experienced,” said José Luís Carneiro upon arriving at Largo do Rato, the PS headquarters for these municipal elections, just before 6:00 p.m.

Asked if he intends to visit the Lisbon Forum tonight, where socialist Alexandra Leitão awaits the election results, the PS leader mentioned that there will be “a lot of work until quite late” at Largo do Rato because, as he was told, “everything is very tied everywhere.”

“We will accept the scrutiny and the will of the citizens. Three months ago, some thought the PS might disappear. What we feel is a desire to reconnect with this great party,” he stated.

Regarding the election outcome, the PS leader emphasized the importance of engaging in “public life with democratic humility” and asserted that socialist candidates “have done everything” they could do.

“This is a fundamental moment in the life of the country,” he appealed.
