José Luís Carneiro has urged Luís Montenegro “to stop and listen” to what he has been told and “to reconsider his approach,” emphasizing that proposals have been put forward in “several areas where the government has consistently failed.”
The government “has failed and continues to fail in health, education, housing, and is also failing in the Recovery and Resilience Plan,” stated the Secretary-General of the PS while speaking to journalists in Coimbra at Ana Abrunhosa’s inauguration as the president of that council.
Refusing to comment on whether the Minister of Health should resign, José Luís Carneiro emphasized that Luís Montenegro is “the first and last responsible for the government” and the responses provided or their lack.
“The Prime Minister must pause to reflect, as there are very serious issues occurring in the country’s life,” he insisted, questioning whether the government intends to implement the PS’s proposal to create a coordination unit for hospital emergencies.
Highlighting the expectation for a harsh winter, the PS Secretary-General noted the importance of knowing “whether the government has solutions for structural issues that demonstrate daily failures, particularly the management of hospital emergencies.”
José Luís Carneiro pointed out that similar coordination units function in countries like Spain, France, or England, arguing that the structure should operate under the National Civil Protection Authority.
