The PS campaign trail continued in Montemor-o-Novo, Évora district, with José Luís Carneiro engaging with local residents. During his visit, Carneiro shared an amusing observation.
“Have you noticed that I’m not sweating? This is called tranquility. Serenity,” he remarked, eliciting laughter from the crowd.
The PS leader attributed his “calmness” to an “auto-exercise” that helps him remain “very serene with what he calls quiet strength.”
“I believe I might be even more pleased than I am today because some promises of victory might come true on the night of the 12th,” he told journalists confidently.
Carneiro, who paused at a local retiree association to enjoy a glass of Moscatel, aimed to boost the morale of his candidates.
“It’s the spirit that mobilizes the will to win elections,” he emphasized, standing alongside Olímpio Galvão, the PS president and mayoral candidate in Montemor-o-Novo.
Carneiro highlighted Montemor-o-Novo as the home of one of the “best agriculture ministers ever,” Capoulas Santos.
“Today, he couldn’t be here because of an unavoidable commitment in Lisbon, but he asked me to send you a very strong, fraternal, and supportive hug, reminding you that he didn’t forget his roots and continues to support our president Olímpio to perform well,” he conveyed.
Earlier, Carneiro had been at a lunch in Vendas Novas, where he enjoyed traditional bifanas after spending the morning in Évora district.
At the restaurant, he encountered the IL caravan, with liberal leader Mariana Leitão greeting the socialist leader.
José Luís Carneiro invited Mariana Leitão to join the socialist table: “You can share since PS is always used to sharing.”
The liberal leader noted that she was already seated at the terrace and wished the socialist leader “safe travels” as they parted ways.
