Carneiro considers that changes to the labor law “offend workers”

“These measures insult young workers, insult working women, insult the most vulnerable populations, and also offend families,” stated José Luís Carneiro, on the sidelines of a PS national secretariat meeting.

The PS secretary-general illustrated this with “the possibility of dismissing employees without just cause, and even if deemed unjust, not allowing for the reinstatement of a worker,” which he considered “very serious.”

José Luís Carneiro argued that “ceasing to penalize undeclared work means pushing thousands and thousands of the most vulnerable workers into the informal economy and into insecurity and precariousness.”

The socialist highlighted the “two million workers living in precarious circumstances.”

“That is not the economic model I want for the country, nor is it the societal model I advocate for the country,” he emphasized.

The government has presented a package of changes to labor laws, currently under discussion, prompting a joint general strike by CGTP and UGT, scheduled for the 11th.
