José Luís Carneiro visited the Delta’s Coffee Science Center in Campo Maior, Portalegre district, this evening, where he was greeted by local socialists with a festive atmosphere, complete with dancing and tambourine playing.
“I am very firmly convinced that people will reconnect with our values, ideals, and development projects. Because we have the priorities that concern people’s lives,” he addressed reporters.
The PS leader noted “various countries,” starting with the “social media realm,” which he describes as intimidating to those who engage with it.
“Then there is the country of reality, the everyday lives of people, those who rise at 4 a.m., as was observed today, to work and contribute to their nation,” he contrasted.
Carneiro highlighted a “country that innovates and progresses,” exemplified by the company he visited.
“Unfortunately, there are those who, following trends from other countries, try to sow and exploit pockets of dissatisfaction due to unresolved issues, but we intend to offer hope to those who have lost faith,” he lamented.
From Carneiro’s perspective, “many have lost faith,” and the PS aims to “address them too.”
“Some wish to overlook the progress the country has made, the prosperity achieved. But we are here to emphasize and remind what the nation has accomplished,” he remarked.
When asked whether he believed people had forgotten this progress, which he insists was part of the PS governance under António Costa, Carneiro posited that “often people want quicker solutions for historically delayed issues.”
“But we must remember that a pandemic occurred during the legislative term, a political crisis emerged mid-term, we secured a legislative term with an absolute majority, yet it did not reach its end,” he stated.
Carneiro cited examples of projects initiated during his tenure as Minister of Internal Administration that have only now advanced or been completed.
