José Luís Carneiro delivered a speech this evening at a rally introducing Nuno Mocinha’s candidacy for the Elvas City Council, which he lost in 2021, expressing confidence that the PS will reclaim this municipality and emerge victorious on the election night of October 12.
“What I see in the other candidacies and other projects, some are against the democratic system itself, against democratic institutions, while others are currently directionless and seek to take advantage of media instrumentalization to achieve immediate results, without concerning themselves with what is actually strategic for the future of our country,” he stated, implicitly criticizing Chega and PSD without naming the parties explicitly.
The PS leader emphasized that “democracy is no joke” and highlighted that “there are many enemies of democracy in the world today.”
“And there are those within the country who let themselves be instrumentalized and have already sold their soul to the devil,” he accused, in another implicit critique of the AD Government.
Carneiro views the candidacies presented by his party as “a response to the needs of communities,” from which “solutions for life and the future” for Portugal can be built.
The PS leader argued that “it is truly from the municipalities that the future” of the country is constructed.
“Therefore, I strongly believe in municipal elections, because I believe that it is from them that we can build the future of our country,” he said.
Expressing confidence in PS mayors, Carneiro urged socialists for “a campaign with great ethical and moral elevation.”
“And that they seek, in the performance of their duties, to know that they are our interpreters, the interpreters of the values that will allow future generations to continue believing in our values, the values of the Socialist Party,” he appealed.
