“Arroz, salmão e uns legumes frescos”. These were the ‘ingredients’ used by José Luís Carneiro, secretary-general of the Socialist Party (PS), in a message published this Sunday on the social network X, where he used these items metaphorically to critique the government led by Luís Montenegro. “It’s time to cook seriously,” he wrote.
“Today, on the first day of vacation, I made lunch. Rice, salmon, and some fresh vegetables. Nothing special, but it tasted good. I used simple ingredients, clear ideas, and a bit of common sense. As it should also be in politics,” the socialist began in a social media post, accompanied by a photograph of a dish with salmon, pea rice with tomato, and a salad.
“They say governing is complicated. It’s true,” Carneiro continued, emphasizing that “it becomes even more difficult when one tries to cook for everyone without even knowing what’s in the kitchen.”
“While the prime minister continues to serve the usual menu, we show there is another way: with work, with authenticity, and without kitchen tricks,” the Socialist Party’s secretary-general further stressed, concluding, “Portugal is tired of beautiful and empty dishes. It’s time to cook seriously.”

Reacting to the publication with humor was Rui Rocha, former leader of the Liberal Initiative and current candidate for Braga City Council. “Let him cook,” he posted this Monday, also on X.
