Upon arrival in Lisbon following a visit to Angola, José Luís Carneiro stated to journalists that responsibilities need to be determined “at all hierarchical levels.”
Furthermore, José Luís Carneiro, who expressed condolences to the families of the victims, advised the government to coordinate international contacts to support the relatives.
“There are several foreign citizens, and it is very important that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can work with the international representations accredited in Lisbon,” José Luís Carneiro added.
The Glória elevator in Lisbon derailed on Wednesday at 18:04 on Calçada da Glória.
According to the Judiciary Police, besides the 15 fatalities, 23 people were injured.
The Glória elevator, managed by Carris, connects Restauradores to São Pedro de Alcântara Garden in Bairro Alto over a distance of approximately 265 meters.
The government declared a national day of mourning today.
