During a visit to a company in Ovar as part of the municipal campaign, José Luís Carneiro was asked about the return to Portugal of four activists, including BE coordinator Mariana Mortágua, who were part of the humanitarian flotilla Global Sumud.
“Fortunately, the people had the safeguard of the State, the security of the State, they have already arrived safely in Portugal, and I am pleased that they arrived in good health,” he said succinctly.
The PS leader initially avoided the question, noting that it was not the topic that had brought him to the company.
When asked why he had been avoiding the topic, Carneiro responded, “because the country has very deep concerns with other matters.”
