“It is very significant that we start October 5th in the municipality of Matosinhos. Matosinhos has been one of the examples of the realization of the values of the Republic, through its focus on education, health, housing, the quality of public space, and the enhancement of local democratic life,” stated upon arrival at a PS municipal campaign rally in Matosinhos, Porto district.
Carneiro noted, “Equality, fraternity, and freedom are values that have been very meaningful in the lives of people in Matosinhos.”
“It is perhaps one of the most emblematic municipalities of the Socialist Party and where these values have been most realized in the concrete lives of people,” he emphasized.
The PS leader took this moment to commend the work of Luísa Salgueiro, the president of the Matosinhos City Council, who is running for re-election and is hosting this campaign initiative.
“I wanted to underline the importance of the act we are commemorating today, which is the important moment of the municipal candidacy of the president of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, which is a great tribute paid today to all Portuguese local officials who have been the builders of a more qualified democracy,” he praised.
For the PS, “the democratic local power is also one of the ways to realize the republican values and to realize the values commemorated today on October 5th,” Carneiro mentioned.
“Matosinhos today has an exemplary official who continues these values not only in the City Council but also in the Presidency of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities. The call for confidence from the Portuguese aims to ensure that the PS continues to promote these values also in what is the home of democratic local power, which is the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities,” he emphasized.
