The mayor of Gouveia, Luís Tadeu, highlighted the “eclectic and diverse” program of the Festas do Senhor do Calvário, between 10 and 14 August, with performances by Táxi, Carolina Deslandes, José Cid, Fernando Daniel and Ivandro.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, the mayor said he hopes that the festivities, which are the “biggest pilgrimage of the beiras”, will once again be “a meeting point”, which brings together the resident Gouveenses to those who are scattered throughout the country and abroad.

The Feasts of Senhor do Calvário, in Gouveia, in the district of Guarda, which are also a tourist promotion event, underlined Luís Tadeu, count, in the musical poster, with the Taxi, on the 10th, Carolina Deslandes, day 11, José Cid, the 12th, Fernando Daniel, day 13, and Ivandro, on the Day of the Municipality, on August 14.

“We try to make it as diverse as possible, to cover the different audiences we have to satisfy. There is this commitment to the quality of the artists, because we have the clear notion that these shows are not only intended for the internal public, but also for all those who visit us at this time. From year to year there is a significant increase in people watching”, said Luís Tadeu.

According to the Mayor of Gouveia, the budget, which includes a wide range of events, has increased and is “between 300 and 400 thousand euros”, including the total investment.

“In these annual festivals we keep the care in the dissemination and preservation of handicrafts and these most typical businesses in the county, while adding to it the religious part, which is very significant, and a poster with renowned artists”, underlined the president of the municipality, Luís Tadeu.

On the 12th, the XLVI International Folklore Festival of Gouveia takes place, with the ethnographic parade through the streets of the city.

The program also includes the Industrial, Commercial and Craft Fair of Gouveia (FICA), dedicated to economic activities and local products, the Associative Exhibition, the Book Festival, the Miniature Car Space, the Super Special Rally, the exhibition “Many years, many emotions”, alluding to the 60th anniversary of the Sports Club of Gouveia, or the concerts of philharmonic bands.

On August 11, at 17:00, the public session of the Abel Manta Painting Prize 2023 will be held to award the winning artist, followed by the inauguration of the exhibition of the works selected by the jury and the presentation of the Um Mural Prize to João Abel Manta.

The Chamber highlighted, in a statement, “the various recreational, cultural activities and variety shows integrated in a vast and diverse program, which includes artists from the municipality and the region, attracting Gouveenses and visitors to enjoy everything that Gouveia has to offer”.

“The Festivities extend to the city, from the Chapel of Senhor do Calvário, the epicenter of the faith and devotion of the Gouveenses, in a perfect symbiosis between religion, commerce, animation, not missing, of course, also the good gastronomy”, highlighted the municipality, in the same note.

The president, Luís Tadeu, told Lusa news agency that he expected an average of 15,000 visitors per day, for a total of “a good few tens of thousands of people”.
