Carris workers schedule a strike for September 18th.

The Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (FECTRANS) reported that passenger transport company workers rejected the proposal from Carris’s Board of Directors and decided on protest actions for September.

“The vast majority of workers found the negotiation document insufficient and demanded a clear and unambiguous reduction in working hours, regardless of the type and location of work, as well as clarification and effective implementation of commitments made on other matters,” stated FECTRANS.

In response, they decided to “engage in a series of protests” in September, including a 24-hour strike on September 18, the convening of a new assembly, and refusal of all overtime work during the second and third weeks of the month.

In April, Carris reached an agreement with workers for salary updates by 2025.

However, union leader Manuel Leal noted at the time that discussions on implementing 35-hour work weeks and the method of payment for travel expenses were ongoing.

“If there are no effective responses towards addressing these two central issues, the workers decided in the last assembly to resume the protest process at the beginning of June,” he said.

Carris provides urban surface public transport services in Lisbon and is managed by the Lisbon City Council.
