CarrisTur workers will hold partial strikes between July 20 and 28, and a one-day strike on July 27, demanding better working conditions, including a 100 euro raise.
In a statement, the Union of Road and Urban Transport Workers of Portugal (STRUP/FECTRANS) said that the decisions on the three-hour partial stoppages and one-day general strike at the company – responsible for tourist road circuits – were taken at a workers’ plenary session on Wednesday.
Among the workers’ demands for better working conditions are a 100 euro pay rise and a 15 euro/day meal allowance.
The workers are also demanding a progressive move towards a 35-hour week, which includes travel to and from places of delivery in traffic.
The approved strike plan involves a stoppage in the first three and last three hours of each worker’s daily schedule on July 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 28, as well as 24 hours on July 27.
CarrisTur’s management, which had scheduled a meeting with STRUP/FECTRANS for May 3, canceled the meeting without rescheduling it so far, despite several requests, according to the union.
CarrisTur is one of the largest local tour operators under the Yellow Bus brand. It is present in Lisbon, Porto, Funchal, Coimbra, Braga, Guimarães and São Miguel, in the Azores.
In Lisbon, it operates, on an exclusive basis, historic streetcar tours and a regular bus service between the airport and the city’s main hotels (Aerobus).
