
The wildfire currently remains active and is burning intensely with two active fronts in the mountainous area near the wind turbines. According to Pedro Rochinha, the commander of the Vila Nova de Paiva Volunteer Firefighters, one front spans one kilometer to the west, while the other is one and a half kilometers long to the east, as reported at 20:20.
Rochinha further noted that there is no forecast for containment yet, with operations ongoing around the entire perimeter. It is anticipated that progress in the firefighting efforts will be made in the coming hours.
Earlier at 19:00, the commander of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) described the situation as a “complex fire” with “high propagation speeds.”
The fire alert was raised today at 17:00 in Bustelo, parish of Almofala, municipality of Castro Daire, Viseu district.
By 20:30, the blaze was being tackled by 241 personnel supported by 71 vehicles, according to ANEPC’s website.
Aerial resources also assisted in firefighting efforts throughout the afternoon.
