A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft at Praia de Santo Amaro de Oeiras, according to a statement from the Public Security Police (PSP) shared on social media this Sunday.
While the exact timing of the incident remains unspecified, the PSP reports that the suspect allegedly stole a mobile phone from a beachgoer. After witnesses alerted the Oeiras Police Division, the man attempted to flee across the beach.
The suspect was swiftly apprehended by PSP officers conducting patrols near the sea as part of Operation Safe Summer.
The statement further reveals that the suspect was found in possession of the stolen mobile phone, which was subsequently returned to its rightful owner, along with an electric scooter.
The detainee was placed under a Term of Identity and Residence.
