A 27-year-old man was arrested on June 2 for stalking and threatening his ex-partner in an attempt to rekindle their relationship in Rio de Mouro, Sintra.
The suspect acted “out of jealousy after the relationship ended, persisting in trying to rekindle it”, according to a statement from the Public Security Police (PSP).
In pursuit of this, he “sent messages and made numerous phone calls to the victim’s mobile with threatening content”. Additionally, having “intimate photos of the victim in his possession, he threatened to share them on social media and with her family”.
“After the victim blocked him, he emailed her, stating he knew all about her life and whereabouts, causing panic and terror,” the statement added.
Authorities also reported that the individual caused a traffic accident while following the victim.
“In a sudden move, he performed an overtaking maneuver and abruptly braked, causing the victim to crash into his vehicle,” they detailed.
Furthermore, the man “sent an institutional email to the victim’s workplace, claiming she stole goods, tarnishing her image further”.
PSP conducted a home search at the suspect’s residence, seizing “various computer materials as evidence.”
The man appeared for an initial judicial hearing and was ordered to stay away and avoid contact with the victim.
This operation was carried out by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of PSP, through the Sintra Police Division.
