Former President Cavaco Silva is set to attend an event at the Centro Cultural de Belém, where the seventh volume of a book about the founding member of the PSD party, Francisco Sá Carneiro, will be presented at 6:30 PM. This information comes from the campaign direction of the AD, following an earlier disclosure by the PSD.
Just over a year ago, Cavaco Silva made a notable entry into the AD’s pre-campaign during a similar book launch about Sá Carneiro, where he called for a “political change” led by Luís Montenegro.
During the final day of the campaign, the former President underscored that only a “strong vote” for the AD would ensure “political stability” and the desired change.
On March 8 of the previous year, at a Women’s Day luncheon, Cavaco Silva highlighted that he had abstained from election campaigns for 21 years, excluding his presidential campaigns in 2006 and 2011, making an exception for this occasion.
“In good conscience, I couldn’t stay silent. I feel it’s my civic duty to tell the Portuguese that only a strong vote in the AD guarantees political stability, economic and social problem-solving, and the change Portugal needs,” he declared.
On the same occasion, the former Prime Minister and head of state praised the AD leader, Luís Montenegro.
“He has demonstrated readiness to become Prime Minister, to lead the Government, to coordinate and direct the ministers as per the Constitution,” he stated.
Cavaco Silva remarked that, throughout the campaign, Montenegro focused his speeches on the policies a potential AD government would implement and showcased calmness and seriousness in his addresses, for which he congratulated him.
“For these reasons and in all conscience, I decided to make an exception to clearly state that, on the upcoming Sunday, a vote for the AD led by Dr. Luís Montenegro is the best solution for all Portuguese people,” he expressed.
