CDS protests over broadcast on RTP2 of cartoons about gender identity

During the biweekly debate with the Prime Minister, the parliamentary leader of CDS-PP criticized the broadcast of the program “Sex symbols – transgender” on RTP2 on November 16.

“What have we come to,” commented Paulo Núncio, considering it “an absolutely regrettable program that shocked and outraged many Portuguese families.”

The CDS-PP deputy stated that this program, “clearly aimed at children, is pure propaganda of gender ideology.”

“Because instead of man and woman, it should start talking about being a fertilizing person and a gestating person. Because gender varies to satisfy identity. And because boys can be girls and girls can be boys simply through the use of hormones,” he criticized, noting that “this is not” what families want their “young children to see and hear on Portuguese public television.”

Paulo Núncio announced that “CDS will propose in this parliament a vote of protest for the transmission of these programs on RTP” and sought Luís Montenegro’s opinion on this matter, both as Prime Minister and as a citizen, recalling that at a PSD congress in 2024, “he had the courage to say that he wanted to free education from ideological and factional shackles.”

In response, the Head of Government indicated that he still fully subscribes to “his intervention and that it is already well evidenced in the government’s ongoing education policy and, in particular, in the changes to the citizenship curriculum.”

“Not having any intervention in RTP programming, as a citizen, I deeply regret that the program was broadcast as it was,” said Luís Montenegro.

The parliamentary leader of CDS-PP (party supporting the government along with PSD) also addressed recent housing measures, stating that they “go in the right direction of putting houses on the market at moderate prices without attacking property rights.”

He questioned “whether this package is robust enough to restore the confidence of families and owners, after being strongly attacked by PS’s housing policies.”

In response, Montenegro noted this as “a very robust set of measures that proves the government’s commitment to increasing the housing supply, whether for rent or purchase.”

The Prime Minister argued that this package provides “all the conditions for greater construction and greater availability in terms of existing housing for rent,” but warned that the effect will not be immediate.

“Those who will rush in the coming months to demand results and say that the price hasn’t dropped yet, the effect was contrary, I want to say that the increase in supply is not immediate, construction processes are yet to begin, the requalification of existing buildings is yet to start, the return of available housing to the rental market is yet to commence, but it is our conviction that in the medium term, increasing supply will inevitably have an impact on moderating prices, and that is our goal,” he contended.

Montenegro reiterated his belief that there will be “an economic growth of at least 2%” and “a surplus of at least 0.3%.”

“That is our goal. Many doubted it, but we will achieve it,” he emphasized.
