Speaking in Vila Nova de Famalicão during the introduction of the local council candidate, Paulo Raimundo emphasized that the CDU’s lists include more than 12,000 independent candidates.
“The CDU [a coalition between the PCP and The Greens] is the only force that presents itself to all municipal bodies [councils and assemblies] in mainland Portugal and Madeira,” he stated.
The communist leader also stressed that one-third of CDU candidates are “people without party affiliation.”
“This is a source of great pride,” he admitted.
Paulo Raimundo claimed that the CDU “does not sell snake oil” and “does not tell lies,” but rather is a force “of serious and honest people,” focusing on hope and unity.
“This won’t be solved with hatred,” he remarked.
In his speech, he also criticized the government’s proposed labor law reform, emphasizing that it will only lead to more job insecurity and unjust dismissals.
“We need anything but to have them keep us down,” he stated.
Similarly, he criticized the government for introducing an extraordinary pension supplement on the eve of elections instead of implementing an effective increase.
“The cost of living cannot be resolved with a bonus in September unless the government pays the bills in October, November, December,” Paulo Raimundo concluded.
