A decision confirming the election outcome was communicated by an official source from the Lisbon branch of PCP.
A vote recount held today in the general counting assembly has affirmed the election of a second councilor for Chega in the Lisbon City Council.
This recount, concerning the municipal elections in a section of São Domingos de Benfica parish in Lisbon, took place at the Palace of Justice following a Constitutional Court ruling. The court ordered the “recount of votes in precinct no. 28 of the São Domingos de Benfica parish, Lisbon municipality, for the city council election.”
In this ruling, the judges also validated a previously nullified vote for CDU in a precinct of Santa Maria Maior parish and declared null another vote initially attributed to Chega.
CDU had a 24-hour window from the publication of the recount to file a potential appeal, with another 24 hours allocated for contesting the appeal and 48 hours for the Constitutional Court’s final decision.
The recount established Chega as the third most-voted candidacy in the Lisbon municipal elections, following PSD/CDS-PP/IL and PS/Livre/BE/PAN. CDU, however, loses a Communist councilor, compared to the two elected in 2021.
In the October 12 municipal elections, the Social Democrat Carlos Moedas was re-elected as mayor of Lisbon under the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition, securing 41.69% of the votes and defeating the Socialist candidate Alexandra Leitão (PS/Livre/BE/PAN), who garnered 33.95%.
Of the 17 mandates making up the Lisbon municipal executive, the “Por ti, Lisboa” coalition (PSD/CDS-PP/IL) won eight seats, “Viver Lisboa” (PS/Livre/BE/PAN) secured six, Chega obtained two, and CDU one.
In the 2021-2025 mandate, the city council included seven members from the “Novos Tempos” coalition (PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança), seven from “Mais Lisboa” (PS/Livre), two from CDU, and one from BE. Chega had not secured any councilors in 2021.
