Centeno spends one and a half million euros on (31) luxury cars

The Bank of Portugal (BdP) has allocated 1.5 million euros over the past year and a half to purchase 31 luxury cars. The institution, headed by Mário Centeno, also signed a contract worth 100,000 euros with BMW for “maintenance.”

The acquisition includes 11 BMWs and 10 Mercedes vehicles. This information can be corroborated through the public contracts portal, where several agreements with automobile dealerships are listed. You can view the details here.

The figures are based on various amounts found on the public contracts portal. The reason for individual purchases is that if BdP had acquired the cars as a package, a public tender would have been required due to the overall cost. Instead, the bank supervisor opted to purchase the vehicles individually, allowing for direct adjustments or prior consultations with certain car dealers operating in the market.

In a statement, the institution led by Mário Centeno explained that “the acquisitions in question result from the Bank of Portugal’s policy of managing and renewing its vehicle fleet.”
