CESP files a criminal complaint against Sonae, company repudiates accusations

The Union of Workers in Commerce, Offices and Services of Portugal (CESP) issued a statement asserting that “in the logistics warehouses of Sonae in Azambuja, management has been hindering workers’ right to strike for several days.”

The CESP indicated that “as the general strike approaches, the actions of these managers have been worsening,” emphasizing that “after the meeting in which workers confirmed their participation in the strike, they were called for emergency meetings, intimidated, and asked who would join, with some even making racist comments,” the union accused.

Thus, “in light of the company’s lack of response,” CESP states it “has no alternative” and will “proceed with filing a criminal complaint.”

Contacted by Lusa, MC Sonae “rejects all unfounded accusations made by this union and will calmly wait for any legal actions to be initiated, acting in legal conformity to ensure the defense of truth and its reputation.”

MC assured that it “respects demonstrations and the right to strike and remains always available for dialogue with all parties.”
