The public bank has granted 1.3 billion euros in housing credit to young individuals with public guarantees, covering over 6,650 contracts either completed or nearing completion.
Loan requests have reached more than 12,800, amounting to over 2.5 billion euros. To address the high demand for credit with guarantees, CGD announced a request for increasing the available public guarantee.
The public guarantee for housing loans for individuals up to 35 years old applies to contracts signed until the end of 2026, allowing the state to act as guarantor for up to 15% of the transaction value.
This measure, when combined with housing credit rules, enables young people to secure 100% of the property’s assessed value, compared to the 90% limit generally applicable to most clients.
Within the public guarantee framework, each bank has a quota to offer loans partially backed by the state. Of the 1.2 billion euros total guarantee limit, CGD’s allocated quota was 257 million euros, for which the bank is now seeking a 250 million euro increase.
Caixa Geral de Depósitos reported historic profits of 1.4 billion euros from January to September, a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
