The Caixa Geral de Depósitos achieved the best performance in the eurozone, with the lowest capital depletion, in the 2025 stress test conducted by the EBA in cooperation with the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), as announced by the public bank.
In 2023, during the last test, the public bank had already maintained this position.
In an adverse scenario marked by geopolitical instability, economic slowdown, high inflation, and elevated interest rates, Caixa’s CET 1 capital ratio is projected to increase to 20.02% by the end of 2027, up from 20% in 2024.
Under these conditions, CGD sustains the ability to distribute over 1 billion euros in dividends, alongside the 3.35 billion euros paid since its recapitalization in 2017.
The CET1 ratio is a fundamental measure of the financial robustness of banks; the higher the ratio, the more solvency guarantees the bank has.
