The government, even in its current caretaker capacity, must urgently take steps to hire specialized companies to address a significant safety issue, urged André Martins, Mayor of Setúbal. “We appeal again to this government, even in management, to make decisions to develop a whole process that leads to the hiring of companies, of the specialty, to solve this serious problem,” he stated.
“Two years after the Municipal Civil Protection signaled the situation, it is necessary to promptly decide on how to resolve the issue,” he emphasized.
The rock formation, which the Civil Protection estimates could weigh over a thousand tons, is precariously positioned above the Círio road (National Road 379-1), between Figueirinha beach and the Arrábida port, posing access challenges to other beaches and forcing drivers to take a much longer detour over the Serra da Arrábida.
Setúbal’s Mayor assured that the municipality has implemented “all measures within its reach to ensure the safety of people and vehicles,” reiterating the urgent need for the government to swiftly pursue a resolution to the problem.
