The body of the woman found today in a well in Ovar is not that of the pregnant woman who has been missing for more than three months in the neighboring municipality of Murtosa, in the district of Aveiro, a police source told Lusa.

Speaking to Lusa, a police source said that the anthropometric data collected (measurement of a person’s physical dimensions) ruled out the possibility that the body found in a well in Ovar was that of the woman who went missing in Murtosa

According to the same source, medico-legal examinations are being carried out to identify the body of the woman who was found today, in an advanced state of decomposition, by a local man in a well in Ovar.

The woman from Murtosa, who was seven months pregnant, was last seen on October 3, 2023, when she left the house with the pregnancy ultrasounds, calling her son shortly afterwards to say she was returning home, which never happened.

The family reported the disappearance to the Murtosa GNR the following day and searches were carried out, which have so far proved fruitless.

On November 15, 2023, the Policia Judiciária arrested a 39-year-old man with whom the victim had had a romantic relationship and who was allegedly the father of the baby she was expecting.

At the time, the Judiciary said that the detainee was “strongly indicted” for the crimes of aggravated homicide, aggravated abortion and desecration of a corpse.

After being brought before the court for questioning on November 18, he was given the most severe coercive measure and subsequently placed under house arrest.
