Funds allocated for electric vehicles and bicycles in the support program for the purchase of green vehicles have already been exhausted, announced Portugal’s Minister of the Environment, Maria da Graça Carvalho, on Thursday.
In the first 24 hours of the program, approximately 4,500 applications were received, with about 90% receiving approval within two hours, according to the minister, as reported by Eco.
The Minister attributed this swift processing to a “simpler and more efficient process.”
The government intends to assess the possibility of increasing this program’s funding capacity.
For 100% electric passenger cars, the aid is up to 4,000 euros for individuals and 5,000 euros for non-profit organizations, municipalities, and transport authorities, with the condition that a fossil fuel vehicle over 10 years old must be scrapped.
Assistance for cargo bicycles, electric and conventional, ranges from 500 to 1,500 euros, while for electric motorcycles, tricycles, quadricycles, and other electric personal mobility devices, the grant is up to 1,500 euros.
For electric vehicle chargers in multi-family buildings, the incentive covers up to 80% of the purchase cost (up to 800 euros) per parking space.
An additional 80% of the electrical installation cost can be covered, up to a 1,000-euro limit per parking space.
The two million-euro support included in the Green Mobility — Goods initiative is exclusively directed at companies.
This includes 100% electric light commercial vehicles, with a grant of 6,000 euros per unit, limited to two vehicles per beneficiary.
For cargo bicycles, either electric or non-assisted, the support is 50% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of 1,500 euros for electric models and 1,000 euros for conventional ones. Each beneficiary can receive support for up to four units.
