
The proposal for the distribution of committee presidencies by parliamentary group, based on the representativeness of each party and negotiated among the three largest parties, is expected to be voted on by lawmakers today.
Like Chega, the Socialist Party (PS) Parliamentary Group will chair four of the 15 committees: European Affairs; Economy and Territorial Cohesion; Health; and Labor, Social Security, and Inclusion.
The Social Democratic Party (PSD), the largest parliamentary group in the Assembly of the Republic, will chair the committees of Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Liberties and Guarantees; Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities; Agriculture and Fisheries; Environment and Energy; Culture, Communication, Youth, and Sports; State Reform and Local Government; Infrastructure, Mobility, and Housing.
The social-democratic group will appoint vice-presidents for National Defense; European Affairs, Budget, and Finance; Economy and Territorial Cohesion; Education and Sciences; Health; Labor, Social Security, and Inclusion.
Chega, in addition to chairing the committees of National Defense, Education, Budget, and Transparency, will also designate vice-presidents for the committees of Constitutional Affairs; Agriculture and Fisheries, Environment and Energy, and State Reform.
Meanwhile, the PS will hold the vice-presidencies of the committees of Foreign Affairs; Culture, Communication, Youth, and Sports; Infrastructure and Transparency.
