Chega candidate elected councilor in Mirandela left the party

In a statement, Luís Saraiva, also the coordinator of the Chega party in Mirandela, explained that due to “insurmountable differences with the district party leadership, as well as a glaring lack of support throughout the campaign, both locally and nationally,” he decided to resign from the party, leaving with a “clear conscience.”

He emphasized that he is not a “career politician” and his “only concern” is the “future of Mirandela,” through “sensible, realistic and feasible policies, prioritizing the basic needs of the population.”

When asked if he would take office as an independent councilor, Luís Saraiva confirmed, but stated he would only make further statements after the swearing-in on October 29.

In the local elections, Chega was the third most voted political force in Mirandela, with 10% of the votes, which allowed for the election of one councilor, although without a portfolio.

This is the first time the party has elected a councilor in this municipality.

Although PS won the election with 38.49% of the votes, there is a tie in elected mandates. PS elected three councilors, PSD elected another three, and Chega one.
