Chega Deputy complains of being threatened by Hugo Soares

The Chega party announced today a formal complaint lodged by Pedro Frazão against Hugo Soares, following “threats made during the plenary session of the Assembly of the Republic on September 17.”

In the document released, Chega’s deputy requests the Transparency and Statute of Deputies Committee, chaired by Rui Paulo Sousa from the same party, to initiate an inquiry.

Pedro Frazão states that during last Wednesday’s plenary session, Hugo Soares “with the microphone turned off but in a voice loud enough for the whole chamber to hear,” approached him, saying: “Are you coming to hit me at my house?”; “I’ll hit you! Want some?”

“He then picked up the phone, gesturing for the signatory to answer his; as this was not done, he challenged him several times to go ‘outside!’ to settle the matter,” the account continues.

According to the Chega deputy, the president of the Assembly tried “several times to reason” with the social democrat, who replied that “he had already suggested to the signatory [Pedro Frazão] to ‘go outside,’ but he did not want to.”

The Chega deputy filed this complaint on the same day the president of the Assembly of the Republic also requested the Transparency Committee to inquire into possible “serious irregularities” committed by violating “the duties of deputies” by Filipe Melo of Chega, while he served as deputy secretary of the parliamentary board.

During Thursday’s plenary session, PS deputy Isabel Moreira asked to speak, complaining that Filipe Melo “blew kisses” and made gestures at her, allegedly to silence her.

At the start of today’s plenary, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco referred to this incident, describing it as unacceptable.

This complaint from Pedro Frazão also comes on the day he was reprimanded by Aguiar-Branco for calling Rui Tavares, of the Livre party, “sneaky,” during a heated debate this morning that led to warnings from the parliament president to both.
