This IRS relief project by Chega was announced by André Ventura at a press conference, stating that he intends for it to be discussed next Friday, alongside the Government’s proposal.
In the Government’s proposal for IRS relief, to be applied this year at a total value of 500 million euros, the tax rate reduction from the 1st to the 3rd brackets is 0.5 percentage points; from the 4th to the 6th, it is 0.6 percentage points; and the 7th and 8th brackets will see a decrease of 0.4 percentage points.
André Ventura mentioned that Chega will propose a relief greater than the Government’s by 25% for taxpayers in the second to fifth brackets, “middle-class workers earning just over two thousand euros per month.”
“We will maintain the relief as planned by the Government for taxpayers in the sixth to eighth brackets and propose an increase in housing expense deductions up to 850 euros,” stated the president of Chega.
When questioned about the overall cost of these measures proposed by Chega, André Ventura argued that it remains “within the budgeting margin” defined by the Government, that is, 500 million euros.
Politically, he expressed confidence in reaching an agreement in parliament with the parties supporting the Government, PSD, and CDS, regarding the reduction of the IRS.
