Chega requested a vote recount in Montijo: “Inconsistencies in validation”

“The main reason for requesting a recount was the detection of several inconsistencies in the validation of votes at the Montijo Court,” Nuno Valente told Lusa.

The leading candidate of Chega in last Sunday’s elections admitted, however, that the fact that Chega lost the elections in the Pegões Parish Council by a narrow margin of ten votes also contributed to the recount request.

The Montijo with Vision and Heart Movement (MVC), which won the Sunday elections for the Montijo City Council, securing the presidency of the municipality through the socialist dissident Fernando Caria, also won the elections for the Pegões Parish Council with a total of 495 votes, just ten more than Chega, which came second with 485 votes.

In the elections for the Montijo City Council in the Setúbal district, MVC won with a total of 6,452 votes (27.48%), 631 more votes than Chega, which was second with 5,821 votes (24.79%).

A source from the Office of the President of the Montijo City Council confirmed to Lusa that the vote recount began today and is expected to resume on Thursday.
