Chega says that “winning is not at any cost” and denies alliance with “corrupts”

“The Chega party came to Viseu and throughout the district today to become one of the largest municipal parties. Chega is already significant but aims to become the largest municipal party following the legislative results,” stated André Ventura.

Speaking to journalists upon arriving at the Feira de São Mateus in Viseu, marking its 633rd edition, Ventura clarified that there would be no alliances with other parties. He emphasized that the candidate for the Viseu municipality, Bernardo Pessanha, has ruled out any connection with the PS.

“We do not align with parties that are inherently corrupt,” he asserted.

“We want to win, but not at any cost by joining corrupt parties,” he added.

For the elections scheduled for October 12, Chega has presented candidates in all 24 municipalities of the Viseu district.

Journalists questioned him on various topics, including Palestine, regarding which he declined to take a position on recognition of statehood.

He remarked that “the government announced six, seven, or eight thousand places,” and it later emerged that “there were 400 places for preschool. This concerns people who have nowhere to place their children in nurseries.”

“We have long said that priority should be given to those who work, not to immigrants; priority should be given to Portuguese in accessing nurseries, which is what matters to the people here.”
