“If there is no agreement on these fundamental values, Chega will not endorse the nationality law,” stated André Ventura.
During a press conference at the party headquarters in Lisbon, Ventura reiterated Chega’s demands, particularly that the law should stipulate automatic loss of nationality for those committing serious crimes. He also insisted that applicants for nationality should not be dependent on social support and that those who obtain it fraudulently should not have the opportunity to recover it.
The leader of Chega indicated that negotiations would continue tonight and expressed hope for a possible convergence.
The vote on the specialty of the nationality law revision proposal was postponed for the third time today, with voting expected to occur on Friday.
