Chega will vote against the motion to reject the Government Program presented by the PCP and welcomed a “rapprochement” on some issues, such as fighting corruption or taxation, although it also considers it to be “very vague and unambitious”.
“Chega will vote against the PCP’s motion to reject,” he said.
Speaking to journalists today in Parliament, André Ventura said it was “important that the government is able to keep the promises it has made and has the time to do them and work on them over the next few months, not in a year or two”.
“At the same time, it’s important that those who table motions of rejection understand that there is no other alternative within this parliamentary framework. Approving a motion of rejection without presenting an alternative is like telling the country that it will be ungovernable for six or seven months, it’s pure political irresponsibility,” he explained.
The president of Chega pointed out that “the PCP has no capacity to have an alternative, neither with the PS, nor with Livre, nor with any other party”.
André Ventura also considered that the Government Program is “very vague and unambitious, especially considering the commitments and promises that were made to the right, both by the PSD and Chega, in terms of fulfilling goals and achieving objectives”.
Even so, the leader of Chega, a party that is not part of the executive, said that there are “points of rapprochement and positive contact”, particularly in terms of taxation and the fight against corruption.
“In terms of tax, the government has presented elements that we can identify with, in terms of IRS and IRC, IMT and in relation to the purchase of young housing. There are elements here that can be negotiated and worked on, and we see good prospects,” he said.
André Ventura also defended the fact that the document is “in line with what Chega has been saying for a long time in terms of corruption, which is the idea of extended confiscation, which is now directly included in the program”, as well as the “increase in penalties”.
“There is a rapprochement with Chega’s ideas, we have material to work with and to continue with,” he said.
The Government Program of the Democratic Alliance (AD) was approved today in the Council of Ministers, on the eve of two days of debate in parliament, on Thursday and Friday.
The Minister for the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, said that the document is based on AD’s electoral program, but incorporates “more than 60 measures from the electoral programs of other parties with parliamentary representation”.
