During the plenary debate on the avocated norms, on the third day of detailed discussions for the State Budget 2026, Pedro Pinto highlighted that the main distinction between Chega and the PS in this budget discussion lies in the voting scheduled for the upcoming Thursday.
“I remind you that next Thursday morning, when you rise to abstain from this budget, we will vote against it. This is the big difference. We are consistent. You are not consistent. You criticize the budget, call it the biggest tax burden ever, but then, when it comes time to vote, you lean towards the PSD. Socialist demagogy and hypocrisy,” he accused.
Pedro Pinto made this declaration in a clarification request following a speech by socialist deputy Carlos Pereira, who addressed the PS proposal to replace the end of the ISP discount with a reduction in VAT on a set of essential food goods, which was rejected last Friday and brought to plenary this morning.
Chega voted against it in the general vote, and André Ventura, when questioned whether this voting stance would apply to the final global vote, indicated that Chega proceeds “step by step” and takes the negotiation period with other parties seriously.
