“I proposed today to the Prime Minister the holding of a meeting where, from both sides, we can establish the fundamental guidelines that should direct the budget program for the coming year,” he stated.
Speaking to journalists at the Assembly of the Republic, the leader of Chega expressed a desire to ensure that the approval of the State Budget for 2026 “proceeds smoothly, without sparking a political crisis or a divergence crisis in the country.”
“The Government cannot and must not present a budget to the Assembly of the Republic that is already completed, pre-conceived, and directed, as if it were a take-it-or-leave-it deal for Chega and the other parties,” he argued.
André Ventura mentioned that the meeting request has not yet been sent to Luís Montenegro but will be formalized today, hoping the meeting can take place next week.
The president of Chega also advocated that the State Budget for the coming year should be delivered to parliament before the scheduled date of October 10.
Ventura called the document’s release two days before the local elections “cheap electioneering.”
“If there is consensus on this next week, in two or two and a half weeks, the budget will be ready to be delivered, with a preliminary agreement in place,” he suggested.
