In a video message sent to newsrooms in response to a series of measures announced today by PSD leader and Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, Chega’s leader called for investment in “public housing for the middle class facing difficulties” and an increase in tax deductions for housing expenses.
“We need to help people so that the expenses they have on housing can be deducted more on IRS. What they have to deduct today is just crumbs, when family housing expenses are enormous,” he said.
At the closing ceremony of PSD’s Summer University today in Castelo de Vide (Portalegre), Luís Montenegro stated that the government wants to give “a new impetus to housing” because the challenge in this area “is gigantic, but it must be overcome.”
Montenegro announced that a new credit line of 1.3 billion euros for affordable housing would be signed with the European Investment Bank (EIB) next Thursday.
The government also aims to create a single digital record that will initially bring together “all certified documents of the property” and to transfer the State’s property without justified public use to Estamo, the company managing state real estate.
André Ventura agreed with some measures announced by Montenegro, particularly regarding the reduction of bureaucracy, but considered them still “absolutely insufficient.”
“We will insist that the State Budget for 2026 reflects a change in housing policy spirit,” Ventura said.
